Elias: ”Kun sanot sen näin – elämän salaisuus on mielessäni niin yksinkertainen, mutta vaikeasti tavoitettavissa.”
Theofilos: ”Siksi tarvitaan viisautta. Viisaus näyttää, missä kapea tie kulkee – se ei mutkittele sinne tänne, vaan kulkee suoraan, mutta sitä on mahdoton löytää ilman ohjenuoraa.”
Elias: ”Ja mikä on se viisaus josta puhut, tarkalleen ottaen?”
Theofilos: ”Pyri tulemaan paremmaksi.
Ole rehellinen itsellesi ja muille.

English translation:
To Find Without Seeking
Elias: “Was I meant to rise above it all in order to gain a broader perspective—to learn to understand more deeply?
How is it that, from this elevated perspective, all hatred has vanished and been replaced by compassion and love?
How is it that gentleness is the only direction that still makes any sense?”
Theophilos: “When the cup overflows to the brim, it is capable of giving more than it can retain. The same law applies to the development of the self—one must first attain the form toward which one strives in the growth of the soul, after which selfishness disappears and transforms into the will to bring about as much good for others as possible.
One cannot give from a place of want,
And in want, one is inclined to take.
Otherwise bitterness engulfs the person.”
Elias: “When you put it that way—the secret of life seems so simple to me, and yet so difficult to attain.”
Theophilos: “That is why wisdom is needed. Wisdom shows where the narrow path runs—it does not wind this way and that, but runs straight, yet it is impossible to find without a guiding thread.”
Elias: “And what is this wisdom you speak of, exactly?”
Theophilos: “Strive to become better.
Be honest with yourself and with others.
Trust your highest instinct.
Learn the balance between humility and taking a stand.
Be curious—the world will teach you, if you have ears to hear.
But—be prepared to learn that the world will not do the same for your sake.”
